Political Stability in Nepal

Political Stability is almost an unknown entity in Nepal. Way before the Ranas ruled our country there was unrest in the politics. And since then it has pretty much remained the same. It is the most dominant hurdle (though there are plenty others) in the path to progress and development of Nepal. Whether it was the eradication of Rana regime and the establishment of democracy in 1951 or the Jan Andolan in 1989 and the establishment of multiparty democracy in 1992 and recently the democracy movement in 2006 which resulted in the end of monarchy there is one common thing to notice the failure of a democratic government in Nepal. Whether we like it or not, we are not ready for a democratic government. And no matter how hard we try to make it work we can’t succeed. The only way to bring stability to the government in Nepal is the rise of an autocrat. And the only thing we can hope for is that the autocrat would have some sense of responsibility towards the people.

People in Nepal are not ready for democracy and they need someone who can establish a central command. We need a new Janga Bahadur Rana of the 21st century who can take command of the state and thus control it. Only then can we see political stability in the country. There are new parties being made every other hour in the country who have their own problems and which they think is not addressed by anyone. If the trend continues there will be a new party for even household problems. The husband and one child will form one party and the mother and the other child will form the opposition.

Everyone thinks that this is the time to raise their voice but no one understands that if everyone starts shouting at the same time no one will be heard. Whenever there has been a democratic government in the country it has not been able to settle down for more than 1-2 yr. Then how can the government have time to formulate new plans, forget implementing them.

So it is time we pray and hope that the Janga Bahadur Rana of 21st century will arrive soon and liberate Nepal of its political woes.

Jai Nepal!
